Allow half a day to a full day in the park as a planning estimate, plus travel from your accommodation.
Start in the morning. Check road and weather conditions; the high elevations can be chilly and wet even when the city is warm.
Doi Inthanon lies in Chom Thong district, outside Chiang Mai city, and includes Thailand’s highest mountain at 2,565 metres. Plan a few waterfalls and forest stops rather than trying to cover the whole park in one day.
Choose short walks for a relaxed outing; longer trails require more time, suitable fitness and, where required, a local guide. Birds and mist are natural encounters rather than guaranteed attractions.
